When Halloween can point to Jesus

Happy Wednesday, Reader!

I remember how seriously children take Halloween.

A costume isn’t just a costume.

For a little while, you really are the princess, the superhero, the dinosaur, or the dragon.

And every shadow seems a little darker when you’re wearing a costume and carrying a bucket full of candy.

But Halloween also gives us a beautiful opportunity to talk with children about the things that really scare them.

What do we do when we’re afraid?

Where do we turn when we’re tempted?

How do we choose light when things feel dark?

How do we remember that God loves us, protects us, and never leaves us?

Those questions are bigger than Halloween.

They’re questions our children will carry with them for years.

What if this year, we use Halloween to open the door to meaningful conversations about Jesus?

I put together a Free Kids Halloween Bible Lesson for Sunday School with eight simple activities and Bible stories designed to help children connect familiar Halloween themes with timeless truths from Scripture.

You’ll find everything from Trick or Treat Baskets to lessons about David and Goliath, Esther, Zacchaeus, Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness, Daniel in the lion’s den, the Prodigal Son, and the Armor of God.

These are the kinds of lessons that can turn a simple Sunday activity into a conversation a child remembers long after the candy is gone.

Because sometimes the sweetest moments of childhood aren’t the ones we carefully plan.

They’re the moments when a child suddenly understands, God is with me. I don’t have to be afraid. I am loved.

I hope these ideas make your Halloween season a little more faith-filled and a lot more fun.

With love,

Happy Wednesday, Reader! There are certain October afternoons I wish I could bottle up. The kids are home. The house is a little messier than usual. Someone is probably asking for a snack while someone else is telling a very dramatic story about something that happened five minutes ago. And somehow, in the middle of all that ordinary chaos, there are these tiny moments that feel like childhood. And it's these moments where I feel a little sad in my heart because I think sometimes we make...

Happy Wednesday, Reader! Let’s be honest. You probably don’t need another thing on your to-do list. But you might need something taken off of it. Especially when it comes to Activity Days, or your Children's ministry. Because coming up with an activity sounds simple... until you realize you need an idea that is fun, faith-filled, age-appropriate, and actually possible to pull together. Every. Single. Week. That’s a lot of mental energy. And you shouldn’t have to spend your evening searching...

Happy Wednesday, Reader! There’s something about October that makes me want to slow down. The cooler mornings and the changing colors are some of my favorite. And then I remember that we’re supposed to decorate the car for trunk or treat. Sometimes its for a church activity. And other times it's for a community event. If you’ve ever looked at your trunk and thought, “What am I going to do with this?” you’re not alone. You want our fall festivities to feel fun and magical. But we don’t always...
