A Little Halloween Magic

Happy Monday, Reader!

What if you could get your child to practice writing without hearing, “Do I have to?”

No worksheets.

No nagging.

No battle over getting those sentences onto the page.

Just a little Halloween magic and a child whose imagination is suddenly running wild.

Because some of the best learning happens when our kids are having so much fun that they don’t even realize they’re learning.

That’s why Halloween can be such a fun opportunity to pull out a pencil and let their imaginations take over.

Instead of asking your child to write another paragraph about a topic they don’t care about, ask them what they would do if they woke up and discovered a friendly ghost living in their house.

What would they name a monster?

What would happen if their Halloween candy suddenly came to life?

What is the spookiest story they can imagine?

You might be surprised by what comes out of their little minds.

And even if your child isn’t quite ready for lots of writing yet, they can draw pictures, dictate their stories to you, or simply answer a few silly questions.

It’s still writing.

It’s still thinking.

And most importantly, it’s an opportunity to make memories while helping those little minds grow.

I put together a collection of Halloween journal prompts to help you get started.

They’re simple, creative, and designed to make writing feel a whole lot more like play.

Happy Monday, Reader! You know that thought you had during your scripture study? The one you meant to write down? And then someone called your name. The laundry needed switching. Dinner needed making. And five minutes later, the thought was gone. I've done this more times than I can count. Sometimes I want to remember a verse. Sometimes I need to work through a prayer. Sometimes I just have a lot going on inside my head and need somewhere to put it. That's exactly why I created Be Still. It's...

Happy Monday, Reader! There’s something about Halloween with kids that makes the ordinary feel a little more magical. The excitement starts days (or maybe weeks!) before Halloween. The costumes come out. Pumpkins begin appearing on the porch. Someone inevitably starts asking how many days are left. And in the middle of all the candy, costumes, parties, and excitement, I love finding little ways to slow down and enjoy the season together. Sometimes that looks like sitting at the kitchen table...

Happy Monday, Reader! There are days when your mind feels full before your feet even hit the floor. The list is already growing. The dishes need attention. Someone needs you. And somewhere in the middle of caring for everyone else, you realize you haven't given yourself much room to simply be. Not productive. Not needed. Just still. I've found that sometimes, I don't need another complicated routine. I just need a place to sit with my thoughts. A place to write down the Scripture that keeps...
